Job Description:

SUMMARY:

The GHWIC Project Coordinator leads grant-funded projects within the Community Health Department, overseeing the planning, development, and implementation of culturally relevant prevention and education programs. They ensure grant objectives are met through effective execution of activities and promote awareness of culture and traditions across the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua & Siuslaw Indians (CTCLUSI), in alignment with the CTCLUSI Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles.

 

Notice: This position is part of the GHWIC (Good Health and Wellness in Indian Country) Grant - this is a full-time limited duration grant-funded position. Funding is through September 29, 2029.

 

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Exercises independent judgment and initiative in the promotion of a variety of healthprevention and intervention activities to meet client, community, and grant needs.
  • Develops and implements project objectives.
  • Identifies evaluators, when needed, to help monitor impact, effectiveness, or improve future projects.
  • Assists with staff and consultant recruitment using supervisory skills.
  • Provides assistance to community groups, agencies and networks in identifying community health problems and possible solutions using supervisory skills.
  • Develops and conducts community surveys, focus groups, or key informant interviews.
  • Develops health improvement activities and policies with community and tribal partners. This includes providing technical assistance as needed.
  • Under supervision of the Community Health Director, the Project Coordinator manages the project budget, this includes spending and projecting budget estimates for the administration of the project.
  • Arranges, organizes and conducts either individual or group activities or individual interventions through prevention and education activities, which will increase community/individual/staff knowledge to influence positive behavior outcomes.
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with community and Tribal organizations.
  • Prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials, both printed and multi-media.
  • Provides health education presentations in schools, communities, tribal programs, and community agencies.
  • Utilizes cross cultural information to explain differences and similarities in behavior, attitudes, and practices of American Indians to CTCLUSI staff, and various community, state and federal agencies.
  • Responsible for the preparation and submission of required reports as needed by CTCLUSI and funding agencies by deadlines.
  • Assists with the preparation and submission of grant applications.
  • Attends grantee meetings and participates in all grantee conference calls and prompt response to all forms of communication between CTCLUSI and the granting agency.
  • Plans for and provides education opportunities for project staff, CTCLUSI staff, Tribal staff and others as needed or required by organization or grant agency.
  • Attends department and other meetings as directed by supervisor.
  • Performs other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to accreditation and compliance standards and guidelines.
  • Practices and follows accepted industry standards of care.
  • Follows all guidelines set forth in grant funding regulations.
  • Maintains a professional, organized, clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and safety standards.
  • Assists in the development of departmental policy, procedures, and quality improve activities within the clinic as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY & RESTRICTIONS:

  • No supervisory authority.

 

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, left, and/or carry up to 40 pounds.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT:

  • Moderate noise level with frequent interruptions and distractions.
  • May require local and out of town/overnight travel.
  • May be required to attend Tribal youth camps and other Tribal activities.

Experience and Skills:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and two years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire First Aid and CPR certification (or as son as the training is available if there is no training scheduled in the 90-day window). Re-certification must be maintained as required thereafter.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to be covered by agency’s vehicle insurance and provided proof of valid private vehicle coverage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Must be highly organized and motivated, and be able to manage complex projects and carry out all responsibilities of the job requirements with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Must be able to travel, as requested.
  • Must possess ability to work with a wide variety of people and the ability to communicate effectively and relate to Tribal members.
  • Must possess reasonable ability to communicate in English.
  • This is a safety sensistive position and will be subject to pre-employment drug testing and criminal history background check, which will include fingerprinting.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.
