    Job Description:

    SUMMARY

    This position is under the day-to-day supervision of the Lead Operator and is responsible for assisting in operating and maintaining the Tribes’ Florence, Oregon membrane activated sludge wastewater treatment plant, lift stations, and potable water system.

     

    PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide back up support to Lead Operator for laboratory analysis of potable water and wastewater samples to ensure regulatory standards.
    • Records daily flows of:
      • Untreated and treated wastewater.
      • Portable water consumption.
    • Assist in collecting, testing, and recording weekly samples of untreated and treated wastewater.
    • Assist in collecting and submit monthly samples of treated wastewater to outside laboratory to verify compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Assist in inspection and performing preventative maintenance for the wastewater and water systems.
    • Assist in inspection, maintaining, and test emergency back-up power generators.
    • Provide daily reports to Lead Operator.
    • Immediately report to Lead Operator all emergencies or anything out of the ordinary.
    • Attend all Safety Committee meetings.
    • Maintain appearance standards as outlined in CTCLUSI policies.
    • Must be able to interact with Tribal members and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
    • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Maintain a good attendance record.
    • Other duties as directed by management.

    WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

    • Ability to work safely in a variety of environments (outdoors in different weather and terrain conditions and indoors with allergenic and chemical irritants.
    • Requires that the employee live within 30 minutes of the wastewater treatment plant.
    • Must be able to walk over uneven surfaces, stand for extended periods of time, bend stoop, and climb stairs.
    • Ability to work safely in a variety of environments (outdoors in different weather and terrain conditions and indoors with allergenic and chemical irritants.
    • Moderate noise level with frequent interruptions and distractions.

    PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

    • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
    • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
    • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds.
    • Ability to move up to 75 pounds (manhole lids, pumps, etc.).

    HOURS

    • 40 hours per week.
    • Generally Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with possible occasional evening and weekend work.

    Experience and Skills:

    MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Must possess good written and oral communication skills and excellent computer skills; including the ability to write reports and maintain operating records.
    • Must possess valid driver’s license, adequate transportation and eligibility to operate GSA vehicles.
    • Requires that the employee live within 30 minutes of the wastewater treatment plant.
    • This is a non-covered position and will be subject to pre-employment drug testing and criminal history background check.
    • This is a Safety Sensitive Position as defined in the Alcohol & Drug Policy.
    • Must possess reasonable ability to communicate in English.
    • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
    • Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS / LICENSES

    Must obtain and maintain Class I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification and Class I Water Plant Operator certification within one year of employment
