Job Description:

SUMMARY

Provide accounting assistance for a variety of programs that require attention to detail and accuracy within the Finance Department.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting Specialist I ensures that all tasks are completed in compliance with the tribal codes, policies and procedures and applicable federal laws and codes.

 

  • Manage and process Travel Authorization forms and prepare per diems for all tribal government travel within procurement and travel policies.
  • Reconcile monthly credit card statements; journalize transactions, research missing invoices and receipts.
  • Maintain company credit cards records
  • Ensure accounting transactions (credit cards, travel requests) are coded accurately and processed/posted timely.
  • Assist payroll specialist to process bi-weekly payroll for Tribal Government as needed
  • Assist with journal entries relating to payroll and time and effort reports; ensure coding is correct.
  • Ensure confidentiality with payroll and accounts payable related activities.
  • Assist with processing PO, check requests, weekly AP check run and urgent check requests as needed.
  • Maintain appearance standards as outlined in CTCLUSI policies.
  • Must be able to interact with Tribal members and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain a good attendance record.
  • Other duties as directed by management.

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY & RESTRICTIONS

  • No supervisory authority.

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds

HOURS

  • 40 hours per week.
  • Generally Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with possible occasional evening and weekend work.

Experience and Skills:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Must have an Associate degree in accounting or related field, OR equivalent related work experience that shows ability to perform the principal activities and responsibilities.
  • Minimum of two years of accounting experience required, accounts payable experience preferred.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of 10 Key by touch.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Possession of good math skills.
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license, adequate transportation, and eligibility to operate GSA vehicles required. This position may include providing transportation for Native and non-Native American clients in tribally owned motor vehicle(s).
  • Must be willing to complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) training for NIMS certification as arranged by the Tribes.
  • Must possess reasonable ability to communicate in English.
  • This is a non covered position and will be subject to pre-employment drug testing and criminal history background check
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.
