Job Description:

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of tobacco prevention and cessation activities. Responsibilities include coordination of prevention and education activities throughout Oregon for Tribal families and the broader community. Assists Tribal families to access community resources, referral services, and other support groups. The continuation of this position is dependent on continued grant funding, which runs through June 30, 2022 and may be renewed after that time.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the implementation of the TPEP (Tobacco Prevention and Education Program) grant.
  • Track and manage grant funds.
  • Assist in the development of programing, goals, and objectives.
  • Assist in the creation, implementation, and monitoring of biennial work plan.
  • Assist TPEP Coordinator in the completion of oral and written reports/presentations for Administration, Tribal Council, and/or Tribal members.
  • Collaborate with relevant key local partners.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of social media campaign including keeping CTCLUSI webpage current regarding activities and events.
  • Utilize and implement ideas and best practices from Prevention Programs of other Oregon or National Tribes.
  • Work closely with Education and Culture departments to provide culturally appropriate programs, materials and activities for Tribal families.
  • Assist with the facilitation, completion, and submission of grants/renewals/reports to support program position and activities.
  • Make referrals on behalf of Tribal families for Tribal and community resources when needed.
  • Maintain current and confidential records on resources, Tribal and community.
  • Assist in the management of record keeping and reports necessary to run programs and secure funding.
  • Co-Coordinate Tribal family activity funds and monitor annual individual expenses with TPEP Coordinator.
  • Work with other Tribal Government departments as needed.
  • Attend meetings and trainings, Tribal and community, to remain current with prevention education materials and community resources.
  • Maintain appearance standards as outlined in CTCLUSI policies.
  • Interact with Tribal members and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain a good attendance record.
  • Other duties as directed by management.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

  • Moderate noise level with frequent interruptions and distractions.

Experience and Skills:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license, adequate transportation, and eligibility to operate GSA vehicles required. This position may include providing transportation for Native and non-Native American clients in tribally owned vehicle(s) which may include cars, vans and buses.
  • Requires an associate’s degree or any combination of education, experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the above-described duties.
  • Must be willing to complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) training for NIMS certification as arranged by the Tribes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of common health problems that affect the Native American population.
  • Experience working with Tribal youth and adults.
  • Must possess good communication skills; maintain flexible work schedule, and ability to work well with Tribal Members and other staff.
  • Ability to take direction and follow supervisory instructions.
  • Must possess good organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate ability to travel and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess reasonable ability to communicate in English.
  • This is a covered position and will be subject to pre-employment drug testing and criminal history background check which will include fingerprinting.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.

  • Experience providing health education and prevention support to promote healthy living.
