Job Description:

SUMMARY

Assist the Education Department of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians with the implementation and completion of Tribal education programs and activities.

 

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Education Department in implementation and completion of educational activities and programs for the Tribes.
  • Provide clerical support and reception duties for the Education Department as needed.
  • Assist the Education Department in carrying out Tribal educational activities which may include camps, summer school, after school tutorials, other activities sponsored by the Education Department.
  • Assist the Education Department in the development of new education programs/activities for the Tribes as needed.
  • Assist the Education Department in the research and obtaining of funds from appropriate sources to support program activities as needed.
  • Assist in drafting the annual department budget
  • Draft department reports and presentations as needed for grant reporting, Council and Education Committee.
  • Assist the Director of Education in the management and coordination the Johnson O’Malley youth activities with other relevant programs and the CTCLUSI Higher Education funding program for eligible Tribal Members.
  • Grant Implementation; data collection and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate record retention as described in the policy.
  • Assist in Education Committee with meeting agenda’s and notetaking.
  • Assist in the development of curriculum for presentation at Tribal events.
  • Actively assist in maintaining student files.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide more inclusive services to tribal members. Mentoring is a component of this position.
  • Track graduation rates of tribal students and retrieve school data of tribal students.
  • Maintain appearance standards as outlined in CTCLUSI policies.
  • Must be able to interact with Tribal members and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to type and manage files.
  • Maintain a good attendance record.
  • Other duties as directed by management.

 

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Experience and Skills:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Requires High School diploma (or GED equivalent.)
  • Two or more years of professional related experience in the field of education, OR any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Working knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Publisher.
  • Must be willing and able to attend training, regarding federal grant implementation, data collection and reporting, and apply this training to the work assigned.
  • Ability to research topics for presentation and provide written documents relative to research.
  • Must possess good written and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and adequate transportation required. This position may include providing transportation for Native and non-Native American clients in tribally owned or employee’s private motor vehicle(s).
  • This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
  • This is a covered position which requires background check that includes fingerprinting and pre-employment drug testing.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, public administration, business or related area.
  • Outdoor camping experience.
