Job Description:

SUMMARY

At the direction of the Director of Education, responsible for implementation and completion of education programs, Grant requirements, office duties and activities for tribal children.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out tribal educational programs and activities which may include office work, camps, summer school, after school tutorials, and other activities sponsored by the Education Dept.
  • With Director of Education, plan and develop new education programs/activities for the Tribes as needed.
  • With Director of Education, research and obtain funds from appropriate sources to support program activities as needed.
  • Assist in drafting the annual department budget.
  • Draft department reports and presentations as needed for grant reporting, Council and Education Committee.
  • Assist the Director of Education in the management and coordination of the Johnson O’Malley youth activities, culturally based classroom curriculum instruction.
  • Grant Implementation; data collection and reporting.
  • Plan, implement activities, and supervise students within the mentorship and after school programs.
  • Actively assist and maintain student files.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide more inclusive services to tribal members. Mentoring is a component of this duty area.
  • Track graduation rates of tribal students and retrieve school data of tribal students.
  • Maintain appearance standards as outlined in CTCLUSI policies.
  • Must be able to interact with tribal members and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain a good attendance record; exhibit professionalism, maturity, and be supportive of our tribal cultural ways.
  • Other duties as directed by management.

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY & RESTRICTIONS

  • No supervisory duties, but does have program oversight at direction of Director of Education.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be physically able and willing to hike, swim, bike, canoe, raft, and participate with active students in an outdoor setting. Candidate will be able to pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Experience and Skills:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 25 years of age per Tribal Vehicle Use policy.
  • Bachelor degree in Education, Communication, Sociology, Psychology, Cultural Preservation, Counseling or equivalent experience in the education field that would demonstrate the ability to do the principal actives and responsibilities.
  • Three (3) years of professional related experience in the field of education.
  • Must be willing and able to attend training, regarding federal grant implementation, data collection and reporting, and apply this training to the work assigned.
  • Outdoor camping experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, and Power Point).
  • Working knowledge of video conferencing software OR willingness to be trained/utilize in house software.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License, adequate transportation, and the eligibility to operate GSA vehicles.
  • Must be reliable, courteous, and possess the ability to work well with tribal members and others of all ages.
  • Must possess good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be willing to complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) training for NIMS certification as arranged by the Tribes.
  • Must possess reasonable ability to communicate in English.
  • This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
  • This is a covered position which requires a background check that includes fingerprinting.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.
