Job Description:

SUMMARY

The Community Information Manager is responsible for the research, development and distribution of information and materials to Tribal Leaders, Tribal Members, Tribal Programs, Program Recipients, and External Stakeholders. Additional responsibilities include supervision of the Communications Specialists as well as initiating and responding to media events, notices, publications and Social Media messaging. Under the direction of the CEO and consistent with Tribal Council objectives, will act as the official spokesperson for CTCLUSI.

 

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement external events, social media, websites, and print efforts to enhance awareness of CTCLUSI Culture, program availability, community collaborations.
  • Work directly with CEO to increase community awareness of the impact of Tribal Activities.
  • Under the direction of the CEO serve as a media representative at Tribal, Governmental and Community functions.
  • Create and distribute official CTCLUSI communications to the appropriate Media outlets.
  • Supervise and direct the efforts of the Communications Specialist in providing approved content for Tribal Leadership, Tribal Membership Tribal programs, Program Recipients and External Stakeholders.
  • Participate in local service groups and local workgroups to represent CTCLUSI’s interest in community decisions.
  • Create speeches and presentations in cooperation with the CEO and Tribal Council members.
  • Maintain partnerships and strong working relationships with media contacts, local community leadership, and other tribal nations.
  • Coordinate with Directors to ensure cohesive public communication from all sectors.
  • Maintain appearance standards as outlined in CTCLUSI policies.
  • Interact with Tribal members and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Other duties as directed by management.

 

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY & RESTRICTIONS

  • Supervise the Communication Specialist.
  • Authority regarding the distribution and creation of official information shared for CTCLUSI resides with the CEO.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

  • Fast-paced, deadline driven
  • Moderate noise level with frequent interruptions and distractions.

 

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to consistently speak to public in large and small groups.
  • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds.
  • This is a covered position and will be subject to pre-employment drug testing and criminal history background check which will include fingerprinting.
  • Must possess reasonable ability to communicate in English.
  • Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.

Experience and Skills:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or related field, or a combination of experience and education.
  • Must have at least three (3) years of experience developing, implementing, and managing external public affairs strategies.
  • Must have at least one (1) year of experience supervising staff.
  • Must have experience working with social media communication platforms and strategies.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with Native American Tribes.
