Job Description:

SUMMARY

The Wastewater Plant & Water Systems Tech I position reports to the Wastewater Plant & Water Systems Superintendent and is responsible for assisting in operating and maintaining the Tribes wastewater treatment plant, water systems, lift stations, and potable water system.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide back up support to Superintendent and Tech II for laboratory analysis of potable water and wastewater samples to ensure regulatory standards.
  • Train with superintendent and Tech II on the dewatering process.
  • Clean and maintain all equipment.
  • Keep grounds surrounding the plant clean and free of debris.
  • Inspect potable water on a daily basis.
  • Record daily flows of:
    • Untreated and treated wastewater.
    • Potable water consumption.
  • Assist in collecting, testing, and recording weekly samples of untreated and treated wastewater.
  • Assist in collecting and submit monthly samples of treated wastewater to outside laboratory to verify compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Assist in inspection and performing preventative maintenance for the wastewater and water systems.
  • Assist in inspection, maintaining, and test emergency back-up power generators.
  • Provide daily reports to Lead Operator.
  • Immediately report to Lead Operator all emergencies or anything out of the ordinary.
  • Maintain plant, lift station and all buildings.
  • Execute purchase orders under direction of lead operator.
  • Attend all Safety Committee meetings.
  • Maintain appearance standards as outlined in CTCLUSI policies.
  • Must be able to interact with Tribal members and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain a good attendance record.
  • Other duties as directed by management.

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to work safely in a variety of environments (outdoors in different weather and terrain conditions and indoors with allergenic and chemical irritants.
  • Must be able to walk over uneven surfaces, stand for extended periods of time, bend stoop, and climb stairs.

  • Moderate noise level with frequent interruptions and distractions.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to move up to 75 pounds (manhole lids, pumps, etc.).

Experience and Skills:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 25 years of age per vehicle use policy.
  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Requires the employee live within 30 minutes of the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Must possess a minimum of 2 yrs. experience in a related field (control systems, construction, mechanics, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or water systems).
  • Must possess valid driver’s license, adequate transportation, and eligibility to operate GSA vehicles.
  • Must be able to obtain State of Oregon Class I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification within 18-months of employment.
  • Must possess good written and oral communication skills and excellent computer skills; including the ability to write reports and maintain operating records.
  • This is a non-covered position and will be subject to pre-employment drug testing and criminal history background check.
  • This is a Safety Sensitive Position as defined in the Alcohol & Drug Policy.
  • Must possess reasonable ability to communicate in English.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.
